Bio

I like writing, I like learning new things and I like talking to interesting people. For most of my career I’ve spent my time doing some combination of all three.

I’ve worked in-house and freelance in publishing, journalism and academia, as a writer, an editor, a communications manager, a researcher, a podcast producer, and, briefly, a lecturer. I have a PhD in history and sometimes, when I get a minute, I also write fiction.

I like telling stories about people’s lives: how they came to be who they are and why they do what they do. I also like taking something that seems complex or inaccessible (or boring) and finding the story at the heart of it.

Some of my favourite topics to cover are climate change & sustainability, arts & culture, history & the humanities, and education & social mobility.

I like creativity, curiosity, originality, and making people think twice about something.
