bio

I like writing, I like learning new things and I like talking to interesting people. For most of my career I’ve spent my time doing some combination of all three.

I’ve worked in-house and freelance in publishing, journalism, communications and academia, as a writer, an editor, a communications manager, a researcher, a podcast producer, and, very briefly, a lecturer. I have a PhD in women’s history and sometimes, when I get a minute, I also write fiction.

I like telling stories about people’s lives: how they came to be who they are and why they do what they do. I also like telling stories that prod the world around us: why is something the way that it is? I especially like taking things that seem complicated or inaccessible (or boring…) and finding the story at the heart of it. (There’s always a story if you look hard enough.)

Some of my favourite topics to cover are climate change & sustainability, arts & culture, history & the humanities, and education & social mobility.

I like creativity, curiosity, and making people think twice about something.
